British Man to Run London Marathon, Uke in Hand
They say that the ukulele is the happiest instrument in the world. But is it the fastest? Kevin Kilmartin will find out next spring.
According to the Worcester News, Kilmartin, 42, will run in April’s London Marathon whilst toting his very own uke. His intended goal is to raise money for the Stroke Association charity, which campaigns to improve stroke care, support recovering patients, and fund treatment and prevention research.
“Hopefully, running with my ukulele will help my efforts get as much attention as possible and encourage people to donate,” Kilmartin told the News. “Ukuleles are relatively light, but it is still going to be a massive challenge.”
Kilmartin has set up an online fundraising page at JustGiving, where he has set a target amount of £2,000.00. If you’d like to donate to the cause and help him reach his goal, visit his page at www.justgiving.com/kevin-kilmartin.

“Running the Marathon might seem a rather unattractive proposition to most people,” he says, “but it’s been a dream of mine for many years now.”
Kilmartin will likely be carrying his uke for most of the 26.2-mile race, but don’t be surprised if he busts out a tune or two along the way.
May we suggest something like Paul Toh’s arrangement of the Chariots of Fire theme?
