Da Ukulele Boyz, Peter deAquino and Garrett Probst, Wowed Us At This Ukulele Session

During a recent West Coast tour supporting the group’s latest release, Jus Cuz: Ukulele Duets, Da Ukulele Boyz stopped by our studio for a “Ukulele Session.” Da Ukulele Boyz are two cousins from Maui, Garrett Probst and Peter deAquino, who enchanted us with their vocal harmonies and impressive picking.
They opened with “Pua Hone” by the Reverend Dennis Kamakahi; followed by “No Ke Ano Ahi Ahi,” a traditional chant put to music by the great Eddie Kamae; and they closed with a ripping jam on “Glass Ball Slack Key,” a tune that many may know as “Turkey in the Straw.”

The duo was joined by slack-key guitarist Stephen Inglis, who fingerpicked his fanned-fret Lowden steel-string. Da Boyz played two Pepe Romero Jr ukuleles. Garret played a Romero Tiny Terror tenor with a spruce top and Brazilian rosewood back and sides, while Peter played a low-G Grand Tenor, also with a spruce top and Brazilian rosewood back and sides.
