Throwback Thursday with a Fleet-Fingered Bob Brozman Performance

By Greg Olwell

For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we’re dialing it back to 2009 for a clip of late master of the ukulele, Bob Brozman at the Santa Cruz Ukulele Club. In this video, the fleet-fingered Brozman plays through the classic song “I’ll See You In My Dreams.”

Always great at throwing funny anecdotes into a performance, Brozman kicks off with a quote from journalist/satirist H.L. Mencken. Writing about president Calvin Coolidge, Mencken quipped, “It’s like watching a guy play a ukulele; you can’t tell if he’s good at it or just fooling around.”

In this video, Brozman is playing a tenor ukulele made by Australian Greg Beeton. It features a single-cone resonator in a highly-engraved Style 3 Tricone body.
