Luongo Ukulele Experience Returns to Sparks, Nevada, November 10-11

By Greg Olwell

Coming in November is the Luongo Ukulele Experience, a high-energy two-day ukulele immersion.

Conceived by Douglas Reynolds, founder of the Reno Ukulele Festival, and Peter Luongo, the director of the Langley Ukulele Ensemble, a group in Langley, British Columbia, the LUE is an intensive—and by many accounts intensely fun—event.

They warn that this is not a workshop for beginners and that players should be comfortable with the following:

– Be able to strum rhythmically and in time.
– Know the I, IV, V7, & vi minor chords in the keys of C, F, G.
– Be able to play basic bar chords (Bb, Bmin, D7, etc.)
– Know the names of the notes of the lines and spaces on the treble staff.
– Know the following major scale pattern using the do-re-mi model:
• do-re on 3rd string
• mi-fa-so on 2nd string
• la-ti-do on 1st string.
(This pattern can be played beginning on any 3rd string fret, which allows you to play any major scale.)
