Hampshire, England, Awaits Word on Ukulele World Record Bid

Did they or didn’t they?

The verdict is not yet in on whether Hampshire, England, has broken the Guinness Book of World Records mark set by Yokohama, Japan, for the largest ukulele jam in history.

To etch its name in the fabled book, 2,135 or more strummers needed to assemble earlier today at the Southhampton Football Club stadium in Hampshire, but no official word has been handed down as yet.

“Did my son get into the record books today?” Scott Birnie wrote on Twitter using the hashtag #UkuleleWR.

The Hampshire Music Club, one of the sponsors of the event, said that there were “enough players through the door,” but could not confirm that the record had indeed been broken.

In any event, it seems like the event was a blast either way.

“Oh my goodness what a hilarious afternoon at the #ukulelewr,” tweeted Denise McKenzie.
