U.S. Guinness World Record Attempt for Largest Ukulele Ensemble Gets U.K. Competition
Watch out Los Angeles. Hampshire, England now wants the Guinness World Record for the largest ukulele ensemble.
On the heels of the Los Angeles Ukulele Expo announcing its plans to try to break the record on June 28, Hampshire County Council’s Music Service is attempting to do the same on July 18.
Jill Larner, head of Hampshire Music Service, which provides music opportunities for local youth, told the Salisbury Journal: “I have just learned that an American ukulele world record attempt is taking place later this month, so we are going to need all the help we can get if we are in to be in with a chance of bringing the world record to Hampshire in July.”

Breaking the record — set in Yokohama, Japan in 2012 — will require at least 2,135 ukulele players to perform in unison.
Hampshire Music Service claims to have more than 3,000 people, primarily students in the county’s schools, signed up. BBC presenter Justin Fletcher (pictured above) will lead the group’s world record attempt.
