Equipped with a 6-string tenor ukulele, Casey MacGill breezed into the Ukulele studio and wowed us with a few songs from his playlist, his easy charm, and great sense of humor.

MacGill performs regularly in the the Seattle area on cornet, piano, vocals, and ukulele and is a regular clinician at ukulele festivals. The man can swing and listening to him is a bit like a trip in a time machine.

The John Morton resonator Casey uses on this session is modeled after the Kamaka “Liliu” 6-string he used for three decades. It features two doubled courses of strings (the C and A strings are doubled) that gives the instrument a more orchestral sound without cramping the fingerboard with all doubled strings.

Casey played two classics and an original tune:

“I’m Going to Love You Tonight” an original
