Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra Kicks Off U.S. Tour
The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra kicked off its U.S. tour last night in New York City and will bring its outrageous, ukulele-fueled performances to 12 more cities through January 25. Check out all the dates here and below.
One of New Zealand’s most popular live acts, the orchestra was founded in 2005 by friends Bret McKenzie (“Bret” on HBO’s Flight of the Conchords) and Age Pryor to present playful renditions of modern and traditional tunes. This tour includes covers of popular songs by Justin Timberlake, Dolly Parton, Elvis, the Beatles, Cyndi Lauper, Prince, and Kings of Leon.
Dressed in wild costumes, everyone in the orchestra sings and ukes, backed by a double bass and percussion. Watch the below video to get a taste of the orchestra’s signature sound.
