This year, the Alvarez brand is celebrating its 50th anniversary. While best known for its guitars, the company has just launched the intriguing new Artist series of ukuleles, which will feature solid soundboards, herringbone purfling, fan bracing, and a variety of wood combinations. The series includes models with Sitka spruce tops and rosewood bodies, in addition to all-acacia and all-mahogany versions. The tenor and baritone models also boast slotted headstocks and open-geared tuners. Alvarez’s Chris Meikle gave us a look at the new line last month at the Winter NAMM show.
