What we’re in love with today: A recent cover of a hot-ukulele classic from “King” Bennie Nawahi.
In this clip shot for the Japanese Ukulele magazine, Belgium-based ukulele phenom Ukulelezaza and “Masked” Mario Takada play “Ukulele Benny,” one of the virtuosic showpieces recorded by a true demon of the strings, King Bennie Nawahi.
Zaza, also known as Remco Houtman-Janssen, recently toured Japan with Takada and his group the Sweet Hollywaiians. In addition to be a masterful player, Ukulelezaza also produces instruction books focusing on his tablature arrangements of vintage music that he sells through hit Etsy store.
For this clip, Ukulelezaza plays a late-’50s Martin Style 3 while Takada plays a recent Mya-Moe koa Soprano Pineapple Classic.
