Learn the Uke on Your iPad

Uke Method App

Looking for an entertaining and interactive uke-learning strategy? Look no further than the Hal Leonard Ukulele Method app for iPad, produced by Hal Leonard Corporation and G-Men Productions. Combining content from the popular, acclaimed Hal Leonard Ukulele Method book/CD combo and DVD, both by renowned player Lil’ Rev, the app offers a thorough and accessible way for beginners to learn the instrument quickly and efficiently.

The Uke Method app allows you to learn and play along with nearly 50 songs, and the 45 video lessons cover everything from tuning and reading music to uke history and model types. Particularly noteworthy, the app allows you to slow down playback while learning songs–to half or three-quarter speed–without changing the pitch of the music. (The audio, by the way, consists of “real music,” not synthesized approximations.) There’s even a built-in tuner to get you going. Plus, the app is completely self-contained, meaning you don’t need Internet access to use it.

The full app, which includes all of the audio and video content, costs $14.99, but there’s also a free version that you can use to sample the system before you buy it. Learning the uke was easy enough to begin with, but this app will have your fingers up and running before you know it.
